It's that time of year again where I create a massive list of things to do that I never get to complete! However, this year I created a sort-of manageable list seeing as for the last two years that I've done this, I've been able to complete at least 25 items off my list so this year the list is 25 items! (aka I'm rigging this for success!)
HERE WE GOOOOO!
1. Host a Backyard Party
This has been something I've always wanted to based on my years of reading my Mom's Better Homes and Gardens magazines and I recently installed a bunch of fun party lights in the backyard so I feel like that's a good use for them. Also, THINK OF THE PINTEREST OPPORTUNITIES.
2. Ride a Ferris Wheel
It's been a good long while since I've ridden a ferris wheel and I think I'm do for one. Also, it just seems like a super summer-y thing to do.
3. Swim at Whytecliff Park
For the last two years this has been on my list to do but unfortunately last year there was this little problem with e-coli in the water? It was a hard pass but this year I'm hoping for cleaner water.
4. Drive a Golf Cart
Last year my Dad took me to the golf course to learn how to putt (at which time I putted a hole-in-one from 20 feet away. Apparently this is good based on my Dad's reaction). Driving a golf cart around a course seems like a natural progression to me. We can also play golf while we're there, I guess.
5. See a Monet Painting in Real Life
THIS has been a DREAM of mine since I was eight years old when I first learned about Claude Monet in 2nd grade. Seriously. I was OBSESSED. So much so, that I would constantly borrow the cartoon Monet & Me from the local library. You can imagine my sadness when I found out that he had been dead for years and that I would never get the opportunity to hang out in his gardens with him.
The dream is coming true, folks! The Claude Monet's Secret Garden exhibition is coming to the Vancouver Art Gallery this summer and I am going to be visiting this exhibit as much as possible while it's here. It opens to the public on June 24th (but if you have a cool $1000 handy you can purchase a ticket to their gala on June 16th).
6. Stand-Up Paddle Board on a Lake
Another special little item on my lists that I would love to actually accomplish. My one and only experience with stand up paddle boarding has been on the ocean when the tide was coming in on a choppy day. Not ideal. My theory is that I'll be more successful on a calm, still lake (see, I'm always trying to rig it so I succeed).
7. Check out a Competition at Thunderbird Park
Another Little Connie-ism is my constant obsession with horses. Yes, I was that girl who had all the Pony Pal and Saddle Club books which I devoured. I can't forget the horse border that ran along the walls in my bedroom. Thunderbird Park is a beautiful space with incredible competitions and I would really like to check one out this summer!
8. Go on a Helicopter ride
THIS is something I never thought would happen but thanks to Vancity Business Babes and SKY Helicopters it's going to be a reality! I recently won a helicopter ride during the VCBB 2 Year Anniversary Bash and I'm going to bring my two sisters with me for our ride!
9. Visit London, England
Another thing I can't believe is happening. I'M GOING TO ENGLAND! This has been a dream of mine for basically as long as I can remember and I couldn't be more excited! On this trip I plan on visiting all the usual sites, hanging out with one of my best friends, Kieran, and visiting as many manor houses as humanly possible (this does not excite Kieran).
I'm going to create a separate blog post with a list of all the things I plan on doing and seeing :)
10. See a Performance at Theatre Under the Stars
This is a special tradition I have with my Mom and sisters and one that we enjoy every year! This year's Theatre Under the Stars performances are Mary Poppins and The Drowsy Chaperone. If you've never been before, I highly recommend it!
Tip: bring blankets and your own seat cushions (although they do rent seat cushions by donation).
11. Explore a New City
One of my favourite experiences has been randomly exploring new places. The latest place I explored was Astoria, Oregon with my Mom and it was incredible!
12. Watch Fireworks
A summertime must.
13. Bike the Seawall
Another summertime favourite. It's makes for a perfect day in Vancouver.
14. See a Movie at the Drive-In Theatre
It occurred to me that I haven't seen a movie in a drive-in theatre for years therefore, I put it on the list!
15. Find a Waterfall
I know the song says not to but sometimes I like to rebel against the man aka TLC.
16. Stand with Angie on her Wedding Day
I am so honoured to be a bridesmaid for my beautiful cousin, Angela, as she marries the man of her dreams this September in Denver, Colorado.
This being my 6th time being a bridesmaid, I'm considering writing a book.
17. Get Ice Cream and Walk at Crescent Beach with My Family
Some of my best childhood memories are walking around Crescent Beach with my family and my best friend, Christina and her family. When neither of us had a dog, we would approach any stranger that passed by with a dog and beg them to let us pet their dog. When Christina got a dog, it was like a point of pride in being able to proudly go to Crescent Beach because we, too, had a dog now. Ice cream always happened with these walks and my go-to flavour of choice was bubblegum.
18. Ride a Roller Coaster
My first ever roller coaster was the Chip and Dale ride in Disneyland. Since then I've upped my game and love the thrill of a fast roller coaster.
19. Visit Saltspring Island
One of those places I've never visited but have always wanted to!
20. Check out the Richmond Night Market
ALL the hurricane potatoes and quality merchandise.
21. Attend the Vancouver Symphony in the Park
This was something I really wanted to do last year but never got the chance! This year's event is happening on Sunday, July 9th at 7pm in Deer Lake Park and you can find all the details HERE. Ps. It's totally FREE!
22. Watch a Sunrise
I will leave the comfort of my bed and wake up at a stupid hour because experiencing nature is important.
23. Kayak in Deep Cove
Mom and I learned the hard way that instead of bringing your own bulky, plastic kayaks, you should instead rent sea kayaks because they don't require finding parking close to the water and they move A LOT faster in the water.
24. Watch a performance at Bard on the Beach
One time we bought tickets to go see a performance but we were too late and we couldn't go in. A do-over is necessary. The last time I went I went to a performance was in high school and it was such a great experience!
25. Vlog All These Experiences
Something I would actually really like to do more of because I love watching old home movies and that's what vlogs are really?
What are your plans for your summer? Are you going anywhere fun? I want to know!
